Plitvice Lakes National Park is the largest, oldest and most visited Croatian national park. The Plitvice Lakes area was declared a national park in 1949, and in 1979 it was included in the UNESCO World Natural Heritage List. The park is a phenomenon of karst hydrography. It is a wooded mountain area with 16 lakes of different sizes. They are filled with crystal blue-green water that they get from numerous streams and streams. They are interconnected by cascades and waterfalls. One of the basic features of the Park are travertine barriers. The process of tufa formation is especially emphasized at the waterfalls of Plitvice Lakes. The special position and climatic features have contributed to the emergence of many natural phenomena. Interestingly, over time, the water changes its course and thus provides the feeling that Plitvice Lakes are never the same.
